A year on from Cast Off.

A whole year?!!! Where has the time gone. This time last year we were at the hospital waiting for our daughter to come back from theatre following Cast Off. She was placed under general anaesthetic for Cast Off as our consultant also did an arthrogram at every stage of our journey.

We are so grateful that everything (so far!) has gone so well. The last 12 months have absolutely flown by! Within 3-4 months of cast off Amelia was walking, and we were so proud of her. It was probably the hardest few months we have experienced following Cast Off. Amelia really struggled with stiffness and pain, muscle spasms and general anxiety around being out of the cast. Lots of baths and massages in the first few weeks off after Cast Off and the rest was history.

12 months on and Amelia is running rings around us, jumping, skipping, riding her scooter…

Its hard to remember sometimes the hardship we went through, it’s a bit like labour and forgetting the pain you went through. Amelia handled everything like a boss and still continues to do so, we are onto yearly appointments at the hospital and will be seen until Amelia is a teenager.

I am still absolutely taken back by the strength Amelia has, mentally and physically (she’s like a monkey with her arms! We thank the cast for that)

Just remember if you’re at the beginning or middle of your journey, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Your little one will soon be back to their normal selves and free of cast/harness.

This little video says it all….

Thank you for following our journey and all of your support.

As always I will continue to update the blog as and when I can!

Nicola
